Minutes of Meeting – November 28, 2007; meeting called to order at 5:30 p.m.
Present: RN Sandlin; L Messana; RT Akroyd; S Pavlosky. Absent: JH Pumphrey.
MOTION by RTA, seconded by LM to accept the Minutes of November 7 as presented. 4/0 vote.
MOTION by RTA, seconded by SP to grant a one-day A/A license to the Rookwood Inn for 12/21/07 from 7-11pm. 4/0 vote.
Time Warner: Peter Taubkin from Time Warner Cable came in to speak with the Board about the process of channel line-up selection and the question of having C-Span added back into the basic tier. He explained that Time Warner is trying to make the line-ups in the various towns comparable to the pre-existing line-ups in the county. He went on to explain that the basic tier does not have to have 22 channels, but that the design of their cable system is set up that way. LM asked what the next step is in order to get C-Span added to the basic tier? SP suggested that a poll be sent out asking subscribers what channels they would like to see in the basic tier. Both Pamela Chamberlain and Carole Schwimmer spoke in favor of having C-Span added to the basic tier.
DPW Snow/Ice Guide: The Board thanked Jeff Vincent for putting this guide together, and suggested that it be placed on the Town’s web page.
Ralph Petillo from the Chamber of Commerce came in to update the Board on the sculpture project previously proposed by Ann Jon. He stated that the art galleries in Town were in favor of this project, and asked if the Town would be able to see the various pieces prior to installation. He also mentioned that property owners should be informed about the need for liability insurance. It was agreed that the Chamber should be Ms. Jon’s contact, and that Ralph could write a letter explaining the specifics to those businesses involved. The Selectmen reiterated that while they have given the approval for the project to proceed, they reserve the right to review all placements prior to their installation.
Old/New Business: LM read the one employee anniversary for November. She mentioned that the Tree City USA Program has a certification program which is due by 12/31 and asked that Tree Warden Warren Archey be notified. She also mentioned that the trees around Town have now been decorated, and that a tree lighting will be held on 11/30 at 6pm, followed by Lenox Dale on 12/2 at 6pm. Finally, she asked if the meeting time could be changed from 5:30 to 7pm, but the other board members preferred to stay with 5:30pm. SP announced the vacancy on the Finance Committee and asked anyone interested to submit a letter to the office. RNS informed the Board that a public hearing has been scheduled for 12/3 at 10am to set the FY09 tax rate.
