Historical Commission Meeting Minutes 07/13/2009
Lenox Historical Commission
July 13, 2009, 4:00 p.m.
Town Hall, Land Use Room

Minutes

Commissioners present: James Jurney, Ellie Geller, Sharon Hughes, Suzanne Pelton, Olga Weiss
Volunteers: Jim Biancolo, Eve Geller Duffy

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.

Old Business

Date Plaque Program  – Eve will make a brochure for selling plaques to home/building owners. James and Eve will discuss printing options: b/w or color, quantity 3-400, Kwikprint or other printer.

Updating Historic District Surveys – Jim and Eve have prepared excel spread sheets of Historic District properties, showing dates of construction, original owners, addresses and more.  Jim will work with James to combine information from two lists and produce a list of properties needing construction date research (where more than one date is shown.) Eve will correct architectural descriptions.

New Business

Town Web Site - Jim has sent comments in response to Greg’s (Town Mgr) invitation on improvements needed. Jim, Eve, and James will work on an Historical Commission website that could link to the Town’s site with new photos of historic properties and embedded slide show of Tub Parade and other festive town occasions.

Village Signs – James will send a note to Jeff Vincent (DPW) stating the HC’s opposition to the metal kiosk suggested by the Village Improvement designers. The Historic District guidelines state all signs shall be wood.
Jim will look into alternatives to replicating the one remaining early street sign at Cliffwood and Main, for use in the historic district. The HC is opposed to installing modern signs when so much expense and effort is being spent on improving the historic district.

West Street– Olga is still paying close attention to the State plans to widen West Street to 24’ from the Monument to Tanglewood Main Gate including a bike path. This will eliminate the historic “look” of Lenox. The road is heavily trafficked with trucks and some believe is not safe for bike travel.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 pm.

                                                                        Respectfully submitted,

                                                                        Suzanne W. Pelton
