Lenox Historical Commission
April 7, 2008, 4:00 p.m.
Town Hall, Land Use Room

Minutes

Commissioners present: Andrea Winter (Chair), Suzanne Pelton

New Commissioners James Jurney, Olga Weiss and Sharon Hughes were welcomed

Visitors: Jim Biancola,

Meeting was called to order at 4 p.m.  Minutes of the February 11 meeting were approved.
(There was no meeting in March due to lack of quorum.)

OLD BUSINESS

Flexible Zoning  – Jim brought to our attention that the Planning Board has written, with the help of a consultant, a new component of the Zoning Bylaw called Flexible Zoning, which will be brought to Town Meeting for a vote. It was moved and seconded that James and Jim will be in touch with Town Planner and Planning with our concerns that protection of historic properties must be in the new zoning language. The Historical Commission needs to be at future meetings where zoning language is discussed to carry out its responsibility of protecting and preserving the historic assets of Lenox.

Westinghouse Street Lamps – There will be a warrant at Town Meeting, May 1, for funding for the street lamps as part of a makeover of the Historic District, which will include new sidewalks, pathways with ambient lighting and landscaping.

Cemetery Restoration application for MHC funding– Olga will take on this project with Suzanne’s help, to apply for MHC Project Funds by the October deadline. Olga will meet with Mary Albertson, the Town Planner, to lay out what Town documents and letters of support will be needed.

Shakespeare and Co. Buildings  -- After meetings between Andrea and Nick Puma, Executive Direct at Sh&Co, it is felt we have gone as far as we can with regards to the preservation of historic buildings, many of which are in danger of falling down.

NEW BUSINESS – Jim Biancola updated us on upcoming meetings of interest to the HC.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:15.

                                                                        Respectfully submitted,

                                                                        Suzanne W. Pelton
