Members absent with notification: Jim Harwood, JH

Staff present:  Peggy Ammendola, Land Use Clerk, PA

Lisa Evans, Interim Health Care, 27 Church St., Map 43 Parcel 169. Signs

Presenting the application was Lisa Evans, Co-President of Interim Health Care.  There are three buildings on this lot.  The location for Interim Health Care is the rear carriage house building presently the office for Century 21.  Ms.Evans wishes to put a sign on the street, two sided and also a sign on the east side of the building over the window. The sign on the street has a “T” shaped post, with a 3’ x 2’ Century 21 sign hanging on one side of the “T” for Mr. Romeo of Century 21, owner of this property.  Ms. Evans wants to install her double sided sign, measuring the same size as Mr. Romeo’s, on the other side of the “T”.  A second sign measuring 3” x 1” is requested for placement on the carriage house.

Mr. Romeo has a second sign which is placed on the building where his real estate office is located. His sign measures 3’ by 2’ and Ms. Evans would like for her sign
to be the same size, creating balance.  KF advised Ms. Evans that the existing signage on the building is illegal, as only one sign is allowed.  SS said that the Zoning Bylaw does allow for a second sign when a business is on the corner or is setback from the street.  Ms. Evans said that she would agree to reduce the size of the sign to 3’ by 1’.

Ms. Evans was informed that the signs are to be constructed of wood or wood like material.

SS made a motion to accept the signage as amended with one 3’ x 1” sign on the building above the window and a 3’ X 2’ doubled sided sign on the “T” post.  ES seconded the motion and the Commission voted 3-0-1 with JB abstaining.

Liliana Arteaga-Tucker 27 Housatonic St., Suite D, Map 43 Parcel 176. Signs

Present was Ralph Petillo. Representing the applicant was Robert Tucker, father-in-law to Ms.Arteaga-Tucker.

Mr. Tucker said that the applicant has dropped the request for the second sign at this time, and is only requesting a sign for the front and it will be put in the same location as the previous sign for Homer’s was located.

JB made a motion to accept the sign as presented, oval shape, ES seconded.  The Commission voted to approve 4-0.

Mr. Petillo said the Mr. Tucker’s son was concerned about the visibility of the proposed sign on Church St.  He plans to re-apply for the second sign.   JB advised that the applicant review the Zoning Bylaw regarding signs or see the building inspector prior to filing an application.

Minutes: April 6, 2010-JB made a motion to approve the minutes as amended.  SS seconded the motion and the Commission voted to agree 3-0-1.  ES abstained as she was not present at this meeting.

JB made a motion to adjourn and SS seconded the motion.  The Commission voted to adjourn 4-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Peggy Ammendola
