Board of Health Minutes 06/04/2003

Town of Lenox
Board of Health

Minutes of Meeting - June 4, 2003

Members Present:        Andrew J. Breslin, Chair, Marie V. Feder, Joseph A. Kellogg

Chair A. Breslin called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. in the Lenox Town Hall.
Revised minutes of the April 2, 2003 meeting as well as minutes for the May 7, 2003 meeting were reviewed and signed by all members.

M. Feder gave a brief report regarding a recent meeting held about unsanitary conditions at an apartment in Turnure Terrace.  Family members of the tenant agreed to arrange for regular cleaning of the unit at least once a week.  Martha Joyner, Executive Director of the Lenox Housing Authority, will check periodically to assure the cleaning is done.

The mail was read and included letters from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, and the American Cancer Society,  supporting a workplace smoking ban; and from Tri-Town Health, advising that a septic system at 40 Laurel Lake has failed.

Board members held a discussion regarding the comments made at the hearing held the previous night relative to implementing a ban on smoking in the  workplace.  All agreed that the ban should be put in place.  A. Breslin suggested, however that, in recognition of it being the busy season for most businesses, the effective date of the ban should be delayed to September 15, 2003.  M. Feder and J. Kellogg concurred and it was agreed to bring the suggestion to the next Tri-Town meeting for consideration by the Lee and Stockbridge Boards of Health.

M. Feder said she had received a call from a resident with concerns that the bushes outside Mole and Mole’s office on Main Street were harboring mice.  The resident asked that the bushes be cut back or removed.  It was agreed to refer the matter to Tri-Town Health for investigation.

There being no further business before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 8:27 p.m.
