The Minutes of March 15, 2017 are amended to correct the hours of Youth Coordinator position should read 40 hours / 25 hours.
Senior Report: May and April= Power Point of Arts and Writing with folks with Dementia.
Adult Swim at Berkshire South is offered for $5.00 fee = No Shows.
Our Side Bar session with local Attorney’s had 4 Senior’s attend.
We are offering an Introductory to Keego, which is similar to TiChi…if this draws interest this could be a permanent class. As of now we have 7 people.
Sue Holmes is hosting a Craft Class, our senior’s will be making Sun Catchers.
Kindred Living at Laurel Lake is our Host for our April monthly Luncheon those who attended had Pork Tenderloin. Olde Heritage Tavern will host the May luncheon and will offer Pizza.
Gina Isenhart from Home Instead talked about Emergency Response in our area.
Adams COA: Their Food Bank and Farmer’s Market folks can use their Debit Cards, Kim is calling the Lenox Farmer’s Market to see if their ‘Card” machines are up and running.
LCC Kid’s came to the Congregate Meal and joined our Elder’s, they made a Quilt which is hanging on the wall in our Lunchroom and then played BINGO.
On the second Monday of each month we will celebrate Birthday’s. Elder’s Services gives a Birthday cake for the occasion.
Water Color class is going very well. The Fix it Fair was again a huge success, thank you to Jen Picard and crew.
We are pleased that we have new people coming to our Classes.
Snap program and Brown Bag continue to be popular.
Sadly, the COA has had several deaths over the past year. The Golden Cane process begins.
Youth Services Report: This Report is for April/May 2017. The Easter egg Scramble was April 15th, the weather was beautiful and we had a great crowd. Thanks go to our middle school kids, especially Jack O’Brien for helping tape all the eggs. Also thank you to our Easter Bunny, Annie Sorrentino, as always the kids love the Bunny.
April vacation week was a great week, the weather was gorgeous and the kids enjoyed being outside. On Monday even with a smaller crowd the kids did a Lenox-wide Scavenger hunt where Team Sara edged out Team Tyler winning the race by only steps. We finished the day off with Kite making and attempting our first kite flights. Wednesday was the much anticipated trip to Interskate 91 where the kids skated and played laser tag and enjoyed the hotdog lunch. Thursday the Staff threw it back with fort building, a Stuffed Animal contest with cool prizes and some retro crafts. Friday we did a little celebrating of Earth Day followed by an Intergenerational Pizza Lunch and BINGO with our senior’s. Our kids and our older folk’s colored squares to make a quilt, our lunch helper’s tied
the quilt together and it now hangs in our Lunchroom.
Monday Hip Hop has started back up after a brief break. Sara has a small class of only 5 kids, but they like the atmosphere, and it gives Sara the ability to work with them individually and as a whole with different dance moves. Tuesday afternoon Chess with Richard is still popular. Clay and Cloth had its last class yesterday. It was a full session, which will be the last of this year. Deb and Jenn always have a full class and the kids can’t wait for Tuesdays to come around. The next session will be a short four week session to end the school year.
Last year at this time we would be doing Thursday Whiffle Ball at Orebed, but were unable to do it this year because the LMMHS JV Softball team uses Orebed field for practice and some games.
We have a new Knitting class on Thursday from 3:45 to 5:00 held in the Living room here at the Center. Jo-ellen Height, a friend of Ginny Titterson, is teaching the class. It is an introductory knitting/crocheting class.
Illustration Class with Emma remains popular. The Center offered a Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course for kids ages 11-15 on Saturday May 6th. We had a full list with a few on a waiting list. The Trainer was awesome with the kids and we hope to continue this Class here at the Center in the future.
GPS Soccer Program began on April 25th this program is working out well T-Ball / Coaches Pitch began April 29th. Our registration left us with enough for two teams in T-Ball (22 kid’s total) and three teams in Coaches Pitch (29 kids) everyone seems to be having a great time. Please note that there are no games on Memorial Day weekend.
Due to vacation we did not offer a Girls or Guys Night Out. On Friday, May 12th we held a Girls Night Out- Sewing Night here at the Center. It was well attended and well received. Both the kids and moms had a great time and went home with a few cool projects. Guys Night Out is Friday May 19th at Orebed Park, a Whiffle Ball night with pizza. Thank you to Steve Coon for helping out and overseeing Guys Night Out.
Summer Camp Registration began April 3. All information has been sent out via our April/May newsletter through the school, our email lists and our Facebook page. May 26th is the final day for Summer Camp Registration. At this point last year we had 27 kids registered, with two weeks left for registration. Currently we have 28 Campers registered. Last year we had 118 kids registered for Camp with an average of 75 campers per week, over an 8 week summer program. We haven’t had too much negative feedback regarding the letter sent to parents informing them of the increase in Summer Camp fees. We seem to have more kids aging out of our program, then we do aging in (Campers are between ages 6-12). On a positive note, Camp is 9 weeks
this year and I have taken calls and emails regarding our summer programs and Lego Camp. Sadly we did not hear back from the Lego people.
The following is a list of field trips the Center will take throughout the Summer Program: new England Air Museum, Bousquet, Mass MoCA and Lenox Beach, Look park, Liberty Ridge Farm, Barrington Stage, Hartford Yard Goats, Flamig Farm, and ending the season at Grahamville
Director’s Report: Beach update: After many emails concerning pre-construction a meeting was held last week. The Town of Lee held up the process. We are now 33 days behind as of now….so the Project will not start in September (91 day project).
Kim shares that we advertised our Youth Services position for 2 weeks, we had one candidate. Interviews will be Monday- May 21, 2017 at 3:30, with Town Manager Chris Ketchen. We are hoping to have new hire start May 29, 2017.
Floors: Kitchen’s replaced= Scotts Carpet One did the job. Tri Town Health wrote up Center for floor seams being torn.
Senior Lounge: The Lounge has been painted; new Computer (paid for by the Town) has been installed, carpet is installed and furniture has been delivered. Kitchen supplies have been purchased to make it complete. Rose asks if Lounge would be locked- Kim says yes at 4:00pm each day. A Flat Screen TV will also be installed.
Volunteer Appreciation Month was in April. Kim sent our Thank you cards with Beacon Cinema Movie passes enclosed.
Kim met with Barb Heaphy at the Curtis to see what options there are in working together. We hope to have a separate Bulletin Board at the Curtis and be able to put notices in their mailboxes. We are looking forward to Intergenerational events at the Curtis such as an Ice Cream Social.
Our temporary Heating system is gone! Project is completed by, M & W Heating / Summer Electric, through Lenox Building Committee. Lighting: New lights are here Pignatelli Electric put sensor’s in two weeks ago….Kim is hoping they will be back soon to complete the project. Kim typed up a schedule as to when and where be the best times to come to coincide with our Programs going on here at the Center.
