Board Meeting
January 18, 2017

Attendance: Kim Graham, Director, Sheri Gaherty, co-Chair, Rose Casey, Jen Picard, Mike Cooney, Steve Coon and Francie Sheehan Sorrentino. Tony Patella, Chairman was absent from tonight’s meeting.
Public Comment: NONE
Acceptance of Minutes: Minutes from our November 16th meeting were accepted. Motion made by Steve Coon and seconded by Mike Cooney. Jen Picard abstained, being newly appointed she was not present at previous meeting.
Senior Services Report: Kimball Farms hosted our Holiday Luncheon and did a great job. We had five new guests join us.
On January 25th, the Cork n Hearth will host our monthly Luncheon. We have 60 people signed up so far.
On Saturday January 14th, Claudia Rice held a Writer’s Workshop here at the Center. Twenty people signed up, Claudia was very pleased with the turnout. Rose Casey attended and said it was a nice workshop.
Our Congregate Meals continue to be well attended. We have about 21 people coming for lunch and Bingo. We have eight dedicated volunteer’s who help out with the lunches.
Exercise Classes for 2016 have met their goal to bring in more people.
AARP started the 16th, it should have started the 9th, however, the Government has a new software program. Needed to stretch time along, hired a greeter to help move things along.
Tuesday and Thursday are the days for the Smart Phone Training. National Honor Society members from LMMHS volunteer to train our seniors in Smart Phone use.
Side Bar is starting up again in offering free Legal Aid. Attorney Jed Hall will be here on Friday January 20th, 2017.
Santa to Senior offered through Home Instead gave Holiday gifts to fifteen seniors.
Sue Holmes continues to make home visits helping folks out with Fuel Assistance, Snap applications and transportation needs.
Sue is bringing a van full to the Beacon Cinema to see La La Land this Thursday January 19th.
Youth Services Report: Our after school program has eleven new members. We host 110 Elementary ages about 35 Middle school kids with a total of 145.
The Ice Rink remains extremely popular. Wreath making had 24 participants and was a lot of fun.
Our town Tree Lighting in Lilac Park was a success with great attendance, a visit from Santa and refreshments here at the Center.
On December 3rd, 50 people went to NYC for our Holiday trip. A good time was had by all.
The Town Library hosted a PJ Night again this year where the kids wear their Pajama’s to the Library for stories and such. Jen Picard was one of the reader’s this year. Very nicely done, the kids really enjoy this event.
December break from school went well here at the Center. The kids participated in a Scavenger Hunt throughout town, toured the Police and Fire Stations, and went to Berkshire South for swimming.
We are offering the following classes: Hip Hop, Clay and Cloth, Illustrations, Sewing, Chess and all classes are full. We are having Dance Night and Girls Night Out as well.
Matt Merritt continues with his Hockey instruction. Matt limits the class to twelve kids. The Center purchased helmets for the kids with a donation made to the Center. Kim ordered 24 Helmets to be used.
Kids Yoga for graded 2 to 5 is going along nicely.
Guys Night Out continues to be a success with a great turnout.
Bosquet’s Ski Lessons: We held the registration here at the Center, 8 families signed up. We did not offer transportation this year.
Our Coat Drive in junction with Lee Bank was a huge success.
Director’s Report: The Center received three donations; one from a community member, one from United Methodist Church and one from a family.
Capital Budget in Town= the roof here at the Center may be deferred for another year. The roof along with the new heating project is quite costly.
Pignatelli Electric did a walk through and presented to Chris Ketchen, Town Manager the results of lighting and fixture’s assessment. The cost is under $19,000.00 was projected. We have the money to re-do the ceiling, had the Fire Department here on Friday – The Lunch Room ceiling leaked. Kim hopes to do an Insurance claim and should know next week if it is a go.
No Budget news. Our new tenant moved in upstairs here at the Center. The apartment has been completely renovated and looks great. The tenant Michael Sullivan, Jr. will be responsible for Building Security and such.
Summer Program Fees: The Board discussed and decided the following increases in our Summer Program / Camp fees:
The cost of supplies, transportation, and state wages are a few of the driving factors for our increases. We agree that we still offer a quality program with comparable fees.
*Non-Lenox Resident; is any child that lives outside of Lenox Community regardless of school choice status.
*Age Range for campers is 6-12 years of age.
*Lenox resident $60.00 per session $200.00 family cap.
$20.00 per afternoon 12:00pm to 5:00 pm.
*Non Lenox Resident $100.00 per session No family cap.
$20.00 per afternoon 12:00pm to 5:00 pm.

Eden Hill: $305.00 weekly. After Care: $15.00 (1.5 hours)
Berkshire West: $160.00 weekly. After Care: $15.00 (1.5 hours)
Dalton CRA: $175.00 weekly.
The Lenox Community Center Board members unanimously agreed to make the fee changes to our Summer Program.
