Board Meeting
January 15, 2014
Attendance: Jim Sorrentino, Kim Graham, Director, Sheri Gaherty, Shirley Benson, Tony Patella, Francie Sorrentino. Absent from tonight’s meeting is Tom McCormack. Steve Coon joined us at 7:45.

Senior Report: Home Instead Gift Program was a great success, fourteen people received gifts. Appointments have started for AARP Tax Program in February, appointments will be held every other Thursday. We have 45 scheduled so far, and more can be added.
Seventy people had lunch for our Holiday Luncheon, entertainment was offered by the Amigo’s. Kitchen @ the Commons (Laura Shack) will cater our February luncheon.
Mike Cohen’s, Water Color Class remains to be a huge success with fifteen people attending.
BCAC is back on track and have reinstated Sue Holmes from our COA to do applications for Fuel assistance, and Food Stamp applications, Brown Bag continues to be steady.
The Van Service continues to thrive= 49 new trips with a total of 389 trips in November. December had a total of 410 trips with 47 being new trips. We served 96 meals in November and 109 meals in December.
Youth Services Report: A full bus enjoyed a great day on November 23 in New York to kick off the Holiday’s.
Wreath Making was a fun night with 22 people attending.
Lunch with Mr. and Mrs. Claus was great, with about 50 kids excited to see Santa and enjoy lunch with their friends. Attendance was down from previous years, however, there are many opportunities out there to visit with Santa. Still proves to be a great day for our younger kids.
December vacation had a good turnout with 18 kids per day – up to 25 kids on field trips, they enjoyed a trip to Mass MOCA and took in the movie Frozen. It was a successful week with some great kids.
Third session of classes has begun; Wood Shop and Fairy Shop each have the maximum of 15 kids and we have a waiting list for these classes. Jasmine’s Winter Luau in the Ball Room was a great day with grass skirts and all. Clay and Chess classes continue to grow strong, and our Food Adventure class is popular as well. Guys Night Out is this Friday (1-17-14) @ 6:00pm – Basketball Night.
Building Project: Addendum #1- Project starts January 20, 2014 with the hopes of ending the second week in March with insulation, siding, front and side will be the first phase. Remaining of fund $115,000.00 if approved they will go forth accepting money in July.
The CIC met with great support. The whole package consists of bags of Clay Chips weighing 2000 pounds each, we would need a fork lift from the DPW. Replacing the Dock at the Beach – they asked Kim to get a quote for mulch from Touponce.
Budget Update: Kim met with the CIC, however has not met with Maryellen or the Finance Committee yet. January 27th @ 7:00 Kim goes to CPC for the proposed Backyard Project and Beach. Kim wants from them four things on the docket. Mary Albertson advised Kim not to – Channing supported Kim. Maintenance and up keep would remain the same.
Appreciation Night: March 8th at the Cork n Hearth. Kim would like to break it down in to groups this year. Group 1- We have benefited greatly, particularly in the past few years from our Clergy here in town, giving back to the Community through Fuel Assistance, Holiday Gifts, etc. Group 2 – Mike Cohen will be recognized for volunteering his Water Color Classes. Kim will look to LYBA for mention of anyone who stands out as volunteering. Our SHINE volunteer, Ginny Chittetan will be recognized for her great service. Group 3 – Restaurant Lunch Groups, those who bring lunch to our senior’s once a month throughout the season will be recognized.
Kim expresses how hard Sully worked on the Skating Rink, however, the weather squashed it.
Shirley Benson advises Kim to take $1,000.00 from the COA funds for replacement of materials that were ruined from the water and such in the Basement, so the kids will have materials to work with.
Kim shares with us that she has a call in to Town Counsel inquiring about a request she has received for Community Service. We have a person who would like to fulfill 200 hours of Community Service here at the Center. This person is NOT a risk to children or to anyone and could be utilized in the rebuilding the basement and such with Carpentry skills. The Board feels that it is a good thing to do.
