Lee E-Crier November 3, 2011
Police Department News
Lee and the surrounding towns have been experiencing residential burglaries during the daytime hours. The Lee Police Department requests that you lock all your doors and windows (as well as your cars). Also, be aware of your surroundings, if you see any suspicious people or vehicles in your neighborhood, please call immediately. It is better to call and have it be nothing than to not call at all.

The Lee Police Department is investigating a report of four (4) fake $20.00 bills that were passed at a local gas station on Wednesday. The fake bills ended with the serial number "9837B". If you are a business owner, please be aware of this issue.

Novel Fever Takes the World by Storm
National Novel Writing Month  or NaNoWriMo
Saturdays through November
On November 5, armed only with their wits, the vague outline of a story, and a ridiculous deadline, more than 250,000 people around the world and a few intrepid beings from Lee, NH will set out to become novelists. Why? Because November is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, the world’s largest writing challenge and nonprofit literary crusade. Participants pledge to write 50,000 words in a month, starting from scratch and reaching “The End” by November 30. There are no judges, no prizes, and entries are deleted from the server before anyone even reads them. So what’s the point? “The 50,000-word challenge has a wonderful way of opening up your imagination and unleashing creativity,” says NaNoWriMo founder Chris Baty. “When you write for quantity instead of quality, you end up getting both.” One of the many former participants of this event includes Sara Gruen, author of Water for Elephants. Lee Public Library invites writers to join together on Saturdays in November and drop in any time the Library is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Bring the tools of your trade and be prepared to be inspired by the collective sound of pen scratching on paper or fingers tapping on keyboards. Your table is waiting.

November Artist/Artisan of the Month
Carl Gasowski began exploring photography in the fall of 2002 during his course work at the University of New Hampshire. With a major in Environmental Affairs and a minor in Media/Communications, his course work ranged from ecologically based classes to videography and photography. Currently he teaches science and audio production at Landmark School in Prides Crossing, MA. Throughout his life, art, music, technology and the wilderness have continuously intertwined. His photography depicts remote and constantly changing landscapes in a diversity of ecosystems. The aim of each image is to press the viewer toward a moment of self-reflection or toward recognition of the natural processes displayed.

Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie By Alan Bradley
It is the summer of 1950–and at the once-grand mansion of Buckshaw, young Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison, is intrigued by a series of inexplicable events: A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Then, hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.  For Flavia, who is both appalled and delighted, life begins in earnest when murder comes to Buckshaw. “I wish I could say I was afraid, but I wasn’t. Quite the contrary. This was by far the most interesting thing that had ever happened to me in my entire life.”  GoodReads
Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.
