MINUTES – May 19, 2014 – Worksession
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by Dick Bennett, Chair. Attending were: Members John Allen, Scott Badger, Dave Treadwell, Sarah Kimball, Betsey Harding and Dick Bennett, and Alternate Bea Davis. Also attending was Hank Benesh, who was filming the proceedings.
The purpose of the worksession was to develop a Jackson Community Survey to send out to all Jackson landowners and residents in June. We used the Jackson Community Survey 2001, which had been discussed and revised at prior meetings within the past year. We also examined a survey prepared by North Country Council for the Town of Easton, NH.
We decided to keep numbers 1-3 as written, and to add “Cottage Industry” as an option in number 4. We discussed where categories could be combined, and how to ask about opinions on desirable features of Jackson today, on future commercial development or expansion, on permitting greater density in some areas of town than in others, on permitting commercial usage in a new, different part of town, on trying to change zoning to “permit” current non-conforming uses (such as “grandfathered” uses or structures used as inns and recreation areas), on enhancing recreation opportunities, and on creating new opportunities for development of lower cost housing.
We agreed that Betsey would draft a new proposed survey based on this discussion, and email it to all Board members prior to the next regular meeting on June 12.
There being no further business, it was moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 PM.
