This month's Conservation Commission Meeting was held as a work session at Jackson Falls. The session opened with a brief meeting in the Falls parking area. Members and the public introduced themselves. It was agreed to postpone consideration of approval of last month's minutes until the next meeting. Tom then gave an overview of the session's goals: spread mulch hay, rake in grass seed, check seedlings, replace twine and brush to block unwanted paths.

Public comments proceeded the work: Anne Kantack brought to the group's attention the spraying plans of New Hampshire Electric Coop in the Coop's right of ways (ROW.) Anne learned of the spraying and, following NHEC suggestions in selectman's minutes, tried to contact Bryant McCollor of Vegetation Control Service , the contractor working with NHEC to spray the herbicide, but was unable to reach him. Anne has researched the use of glyphosate, a known carcinogen, and requested that the Conservation Commission request a halt of spraying to the Selectmen until more information is made available to the public. Discussion ensued. Margaret made a motion that the Conservation Commission recommend to the Selectmen that NHEC halt spraying of herbicides and hold a public information session. Motion was seconded by Mark and all voted in favor. Susan offered to scan the color maps of the spray areas and send them to Julie Hoyt for the town website. Anne offered to borrow the color copies at the town office. (note this was completed June 7, 2016.) Tom offered to find out more information about the spraying, including finding the form needed by NHEC and VCS to alert them to areas where spraying would impact water sources like wells or food crops. (note-this was completed on June 7, 2016 with following results: NHEC info page:

More info on NHEC's ROW work available on the town website: http://www.jackson-nh.org/Pages/JacksonNH_EmerNews/0502E193-000F8513

The group then walked the Falls area and started the work session. A spot near the handicapped parking spot was marked for a wood chip delivery by Saco Tree Works (Thank you!)

Respectfully submitted,
