Conservation Commission Minutes -- 04/07/2014
Conservation Commission Minutes, April 7th

In attendance: Pam Smillie, Dave Matesky, Brian Byrne, Tom Seidel, Larry Siebert, Margaret Graciano and George Howard. Absent: Mike Dufilho

We reviewed the minutes from February 2014 and unanimously approved them.

A motion was made to elect Larry Siebert chairman of the commission and to elect Brian Byrne as vice chairman. All were in favor.

A motion was made to elect Tom Seidel and Margaret Graciano co-secretaries of the commission. All were in favor.

The commission received an application for a wetlands permit to replace a bridge on Slippery Brook Rd. (a Forest Service road) The woman who applied didn't hear back in a timely manner. She needs it ASAP so Larry, Brian and Dave are planning to take care of it.

The commission discussed future projects:

1- We still need a sign for the Mystery Loop trail. Larry will look into pricing with JC Signs  to get one. Brian Byrne suggested a third loop off the current trail.

2- We need a sign for Profile Rock/Washington Boulder.

3- Margaret will write a summary of the commission's plan for Jackson Falls for the town column and the Jackson E-news. The plan includes the spreading of wood chips, consolidating paths, seeding, and working to protect eroded areas.

4- Prospect Farm

Larry will contact Don Johnson (town forester) to help re-do the maps and kiosk at Prospect Farm. George Howard would like to be involved in the project and trace family histories at Prospect Farm. The commission wondered if Carter Notch Rd. is a class VI road? Someone approached Brian Byrne to inquire about building a structure up at Prospect Farm. If this  is officially presented to the town then the commission will advise the Selectmen. The commission must find out if the new ski touring parking lot has permission for year-round use.

Knotweed Problem

The commission has to completely eliminate the knotweed on Gray's Inn property in order to complete the wetlands permit.

Jackson Falls

As soon as the snow melts the commission will resume work on the falls restoration plan. We need to consult with Greg Howard about the possibility of including minimized parking in our plan. Brian is going to obtain some  boulders to be used for delineating walkways.

Respectfully submitted,

Margaret Graciano
