Work Session May 27, 2012 Conservation Commission
Present were Hank Dresch, Dave Matesky, Mike Dufihlo, Brian Byrne, and Larry Siebert. We also received help from Kathy and Wilder Byrne.
We met at 9 AM and placed snow fencing and signage around the affected re-vegetation areas. We scarified the ground and seeded some areas with a wild plant mix and mulched them. We also planted 480 seedlings of various native species types. Noting that the vernal pool has been very successful in producing thousands of tadpoles and frogs, which will become a food source for possibly herons or even otters in the future.
This will be followed up by a progress report from the Soil Scientist Greg Howard, and monitoring of the planting for a 2 year period. We ask any one visiting the sight to be extremely mindful of staying off of the planted areas this summer.
