Conservation Commission Work Session -- 04/04/2012
Jackson Conservation Commission April 4,2012 Work Session

Present were Mike Dufihlo, Dave Matesky, Hank Dresch, and Larry Siebert. Thom Perkins and Greg Howard were also present.

The purpose of the work session was to meet with the Soil Scientist that wrote the DES Permit originally for the Town of Jackson in 2008 to conclude the final stage of the permit. At the old Gray’s Inn building site Greg Howard was satisfied with what we had done and suggested we leave it untouched to see if it will re-vegetate itself. Around the vernal pool he suggested we would have to rake out some of the wood chips and plant seedlings. We will also have to plant seedlings in 2 open areas adjacent to the brook. Near the cement dam he felt we needed to remove 3 boulders from the brook and perhaps they could be placed beside the Jackson Ski Touring bridge to help with the erosion there. The stumps that John Pietkiewicz had left for us we could place on a vulnerable riverbank he pointed out to us. This will also be the larger area where we will have to re-plant and seed with a woodland mix. At the area adjacent to the Tennis Court parking lot he felt it would be all right if the Town would remove the winter’s sand, and the Library would remove the debris from the building.
He will send us explicit instructions for buying the seedlings etc. and will help us on planting day later in May. The number of plants totally should be around 4oo with an approximate cost of $1 each, with a pound of Ernst Mix and perhaps 2 bales of mulching hay. The total cost for completion of the project should be less then $1000.

Respectfully submitted,
Larry Siebert
