09/11/2001 Minutes
Hull Board of Selectmen

Minutes

September 11, 2001

The Hull Board of Selectmen meeting was called to order at 7:31pm on Tuesday evening, September 11, 2001 at the Hull Municipal Building, 253 Atlantic Avenue, Hull, Massachusetts.

Present:             Joshua Cutler, Vice Chairman; Thomas Burns, Clerk; John
Reilly and  Regina Burke, Members.  Also present was Philip                                 Lemnois, Town Manager.

Not Present:       Timothy MacKenzie, Chairman

The Acting Chairman opened the meeting with the customary, but this time more meaningful, salute to the flag before announcing that he had a statement to read on behalf of the Board in regard to the horrific events of this day.  (Thousands of persons were killed including 340 Fire and Police Officers because of two hijacked jets which were deliberately crashed into both of the World Trade Center towers in New York City by terrorists causing both towers to collapse; a third hijacked jet deliberately crashed into the Pentagon causing severe damage and killing nearly 200 persons; and yet another hijacked jet which crashed in Pennsylvania as a result of passengers attacking the terrorists and thwarting their plans for crashing into an additional site).

STATEMENT

The agenda for tonight's meeting has been cancelled out of respect and sorrow for the tragedy that has befallen our country today.

Instead we wish to offer our thoughts and prayers to all the families who have been touched by this tragedy.

The horrific scope of this terrorist attack will no doubt touch all of our lives in some way.  We hope that this attack will not undermine our sense of community and our democracy.

We also wish to recognize with admiration the valiant efforts of all the public safety employees and volunteers that placed themselves in harms way to bring relief to those in need.

We also wish to assure all residents that all our public safety professionals are in contact with all appropriate state and federal agencies.  They are prepared to address any need that arises out of this situation or any other emergency that confronts this community.

Again, out thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of today's tragedy.  I ask that you please rise and join me in a moment of silence.

A somber moment of silence was observed.
