                August 21, 2001



        The Hull Board of Selectmen meeting was called to order at 6:35pm on Tuesday evening, August 21, 2001 at the Hull Municipal Building, 253 Atlantic Avenue, Hull, Massachusetts.

Present:        Timothy MacKenzie, Chairman; Joshua Cutler, Vice Chairman; Thomas Burns, Clerk; John Reilly and Regina Burke, Members. Also present were Philip Lemnios, Town Manager, and James Lampke, Town Counsel.

        Jay Szklut, Community Development Director, appeared before the Board seeking approval of the Social Service program applicants he is recommending to receive funds from the FY2002 CDBG Grant.

        Szklut told the members that he has selected six out of the seven applicants and presented a memo dated August 20, 2001 listing the amounts recommended to be granted to each applicant.

        He said the School Department prioritized its needs and eliminated the After School program and that they assured Szklut that no low income student will be excluded from this program if the grant is not funded.

MOVED-Cutler:   To approve the memo from the Office of Community Development dated August 20, 2001.

        Cutler said that the Board convened this meeting at an earlier time in order to hold an executive session.

MOVED-Cutler:   To go into executive session to discuss the disposition of real property and to reconvene in open session

Meeting moved into executive session at 6:46pm. Recording secretary leaves.

        Open session resumed: In accordance with the notes taken by Selectman Thomas Burns, Clerk, the following business was conducted:

8:45pm - Don Ritz and Hull Historic Commission

        Met with Don Ritz of the Hull Historical Commission in a discussion of what is being proposed for construction at Pemberton Point and the recent controversy over the inflammatory tone in a recent town-sponsored news letter in regard to the project

        Following discussion over who has jurisdiction, or authority, the discussion focused on the guard rails - wooden vs metal.

Unanimously approved a One-day All Alcoholic License for September 1, 2001 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm for the K of C, 440 Nantasket Avenue

Unanimously approved a One-day All Alcoholic License for October 13, 2001 from 7:00pm to 12 midnight for the K of C, 440 Nantasket Avenue

Unanimously approved on a motion by Reilly to continue for another 30 days the one-way road signs at Worrick and Priscilla Roads.

Unanimously approved on a motion by Cutler that the Selectmen write a letter to Secretary Robert Durand, Department of Environmental Management in support of the Greenbush line..
