Internal Traffic Committee Minutes 04/26/10
The Internal Traffic Committee met in Conference Room A, 3rd floor Town Hall at 78 Main Street, Hudson, Massachusetts.  At 8:30 AM the Committee called the meeting to order.
Present: Tony Marques, Chief Richard Braga, Chief John Blood, Jeff Wood and Jennifer Burke

Traffic Issues

15 Minutes Request at Wood Square
Present was:  Trisha Desmond, Library Director

Ms. Burke noted that the Committee was in receipt of an email from Ms. Desmond requesting a 15 minutes parking space.  Ms. Desmond explained that there is no good quick in and out parking.  She stated that Patrons often just want to drop books in the book drop as well as the van delivery from the interlibrary exchange program.  The van drive had received a ticket for parking in the handicapped space.

Chief Blood asked where the delivery is to.  Ms. Desmond explained that the delivery is to the main floor but that he would come in through the children’s room and use the elevator.  It was explained that he can’t park in back because the grade to get to the children’s room entrance is too steep.  He has to unload in front and walk down the hill.  Chief Blood also expressed concern that sometimes he has been seen unloading in front of the fire station.  He noted that this is a dangerous situation.

Ms. Burke just cautioned the Committee that in the past when specific businesses have come before them with similar requests they have been denied.  Chief Braga stated that he felt this was different in that it is another Town agency and the space would be for the benefit of the public as a whole.

Mr. Marques asked what will happen if the van driver comes and the space is taken already.  He would be back in the same position.  He suggested that maybe they look at multiple spaces.  The Committee thought that was a good idea.

Tony Marques, seconded by John Blood, made a motion to recommend to the Board of Selectmen that the 3 contiguous spaces southerly from the handicapped space in front of the Hudson Public Library be 15 minute parking.

Vote: 4-0-0, Unanimous

**Post Meeting Note:

After the meeting upon request of the Executive Assistant and his discussion with each individual member, the Committee unanimously agreed to change their recommendation to the 1 space southerly to the handicapped space.
