Traffic Issues

Parking on Houghton Street

Ms. Burke stated that a resident of Houghton Court came into her office and expressed concern due to the vehicles parking on both sides of Houghton Street and not being able to exit Houghton Court.  The Committee agreed that was an issue and had a brief discussion about which side would be best to limit parking.  Chief Blood stated that from a Fire Department perspective the easterly side would be better so the he has clear access to the homes.

Chief Blood, seconded by Tony Marques, made a motion to recommend to the Board of Selectmen that there be no parking on the easterly side of Houghton Street from Main Street to the Houghton Street Bridge.

Vote: 4-0-0, Unanimous

Wheeler Road

Mr. Marques stated that he had a request from a resident about truck exclusions on Wheeler Road.  The Committee agreed that it would be beneficial as they have seen trucks take out utility wires.  Mr. Marques will put up the signs.

Traffic Signals at Cox/Main/Glendale

Chief Blood indicated that the signal at the intersection of Main/Cox/Glendale is still not operating properly.  Mr. Marques indicated that one of his employees has driven through the intersection every day and not noticed any problems.  Chief Blood noted some of the issues he has personally seen.

Mr. Marques stated that he will look into the situation again and will follow up with the Committee.

Presentation

CDBG Application
Present was:  Michelle Ciccolo, Director of Community Development
Kerin Shea, Community and Economic Development Assistant

Ms. Ciccolo reviewed with the Committee the proposed grant application.  One of the projects proposed is to upgrade Houghton Court including new water and sewer lines, sidewalk, new period lighting and landscaping.  The idea is to address the road before 43 Broad constructs its parking lot.  The Committee liked the plan and was supportive of the grant.

There was also a discussion about including the entire length of Houghton Court and the dynamics of that proposal.  There will continue to be discussion on how to address parking and traffic with neighbors.
