Internal Traffic Committee Minutes 08/28/09
The Internal Traffic Committee met in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room, Town Hall at 78 Main Street, Hudson, Massachusetts.  At 10:00 AM the Committee called the meeting to order.
Present: Tony Marques, Chief Richard Braga, Deputy Chief Dan Connor and Jennifer Burke

Traffic Issues

No Left Turn onto Houghton Court

Ms. Burke stated that the Board of Selectmen had asked the Committee to reconsider the previous recommendation so that they could reconsider their vote.  She referred to an email from Paul Blazar.

Chief Braga stated that his initial concern was in regard to the inadequate width of the road and whether or not Houghton Court has the ability to handle the number of cars that travel down it.  He also noted that Knight Fuel’s door opens up right on the road and that is a potential danger.

Chief Braga presented traffic counts done by his department showing the high number of vehicles making the left turn.  He also personally viewed the traffic back up.

Arthur Redding, owner Hudson Appliance, stated that he believes the signs have helped since they have been in place.  He feels they should remain in place.  He also asked about signage at the Tower Street intersection directing people down Vila do Porto to Broad Street that way.  Mr. Marques indicated he would look at the intersection and look into what signage would be appropriate.

Based on the discussion and data submitted, the Committee stands by its previous recommendation to prohibit left hand turns onto Houghton Court from Main Street.

Traffic Signals at Cox/Main/Glendale

Chief Braga stated that it was brought to his attention that the signal at the intersection of Main/Cox/Glendale was not operating properly.  One of his officers observed the signal and spoke with the complainant and noted that the Glendale light was being skipped.

Mr. Marques indicated that there may have been some work done on the signal and he would like to take a look and review the maintenance logs.  He will follow up with the Committee.
