Minutes of Park Commission Meeting
Held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014
Selectmen’s Hearing Room, Town Hall at 8:00am
 
1. Call Meeting to Order:                
Mr. Redding called the meeting to order at 8:03 am.  Members present were Mr. Redding, Mr. Scafidi, and Mr. Bowen.  Also present, Mr. Santos.
 
2. Minutes to Approve:
A. Public Session – November 17, 2014
Mr. Scafidi motioned to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried…
Vote: 3 – 0, in favor
 
Citizens Issues / Special Interest Groups:
A. Brian K. Reagan (HHS – Principal) – Van Use Request
Mr. Reagan requested the HS Life Skills Program use the van 6-8 times a year, in addition to the current use by the Athletic Department, so that they may do some local shopping with the students as part of their program.  Mr. Redding motioned to allow them to use the van, seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried. Vote: 3 -0, in favor. 
Mr. Redding made another motion requesting that Mr. Santos create a Log Book for the van and also require that all those authorized from HHS who use the van, to complete the log each time the van is driven.  Seconded by Mr. Sacfidi and carried.  Vote: 3 – 0, in favor
     
Personnel:
A. Park Commission to discuss hiring of Assistant Director
Mr. Santos presented the Park Commission with a draft of the Hiring Guidelines and Timeline. The drafted guidelines and timeline follow the same procedures set forth with the recent hiring of the Director of Recreation.  The Park Commissioners discussed with Mr. Santos, potential candidates for the screening committee and set a goal to have the Hiring Guidelines and Timeline finalized at the next scheduled meeting.
 
Director’s Report:
A. Centennial Beach Beautification Project
Mr. Santos presented the Park Commission with all plans he had received to date related to this project.  Mr. Redding asked that Mr. Santos contact a manufacturer of steel buildings to get and estimate on building the shell of the building in steel.
B. HHS Recycle Club – Installation of recycling bins/containers at HS fields
Mr. Santos informed the Park Commission that he had been meeting with a student from HHS, who is interested in installing recycling bins/containers at the HHS fields during the fall and spring seasons.  The Recycle Club of HHS, would be responsible for installation, emptying of the bins and all other matters related to this project.  Discussion followed and the Park Commission supports this project.  However, Mr. Redding asked Mr. Santos to confirm whether or not such a project and its volunteers would need proper insurance as this project will take place on Town property.

A. Mass. Recreation and Park Annual Conference
Mr. Santos informed the Park Commission that he is planning on attending the Annual State Conference in March of 2015.  The Park Commission supports this.
