Minutes of Park Commission Meeting
Held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013
Recreation Office, Town Hall at 7:00 pm


1.      Call Meeting to Order:
Mr. Scafidi called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.  Member present were Mr. Scafidi and Mr. Bowen Also present were Mr. Santos and Ms. Ghiloni.  Mr. Redding absent from meeting.

2.      Minutes of Meetings:
a. Public Session – May 28, 2013
Mr. Bowen motioned to approve the minutes of the May 28, 2013 minutes as written, seconded by Mr. Scafidi and carried….
Vote:   2-0 in Favor

3.      Citizens Issues/Special Interest Groups
Nathaniel Bellinger was present at the meeting.  He is taking a Land Management Course and was interested in information on the Town.  Both the Director and Assistant Director gave him some information as well as other Town Departments that he should contact.  The Director gave him the office copy of Open Space and Recreation Plan.

Nothing to discuss since last meeting

6.      Communications and/or Correspondence to be noted by Commissioners:
a. Request for Farmers Market.
Mr. Genninger requested to sell jelly/jam and bread on the Assabet River Rail Trail.  The Director informed him that private companies could not sell products on public land for personal gain.  This would set a precedent for all private companies.  She suggested that he form a Farmers Market and he did come in with some criteria for such an endeavor.  The Director also suggested he contact Bob Burgess of the Community Garden who did respond with a number of suggestions.  At this point, Mr. Genninger contacted the Director and stated he was no longer going to pursue this request.

The Director stated that in the past Recreation had allowed the Girl Scouts to sell their cookies and PMC to use rail trail as a fundraiser for their organization.  These are non-profit groups and not private industry.

Mr. Scafidi motioned not to allow any private entity/business to sell their products on the Rail Trail, seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried…

7.      Old Business:
Summer programs are up and running.  The season is half over and one new program is gymnastics clinics for various age groups.
