Land Use Update
Data collection is ongoing, as is the build-out analysis. What can be accommodated under existing zoning? What are the constraints, if any? What is under-utilized? Mr. Wilmer handed out maps of historical growth from 1971, 1985 & 1999. These maps will be included in the final Master Plan document.
Housing & Economic Development Public Forum – December 10, 2012
This forum will be more specific & in depth than what was briefly touched upon in the Public Kick-Off. There will be short presentations on each topic, with introductions by staff (HHA & EDC) discussing the roles of that Board/Commission in Town. We may have an additional speaker, perhaps someone from MAPC to speak on housing. The data collected will be presented. We will do breakout groups. The exercises will be interactive – mapping etc. Turning Point questions will also be used. Mr. Wilmer noted that often times concerns about high-density housing stems from a visual preference. Perhaps he will incorporate a few “Guess the number of units” photo questions & discuss how development design affects the character of a community.
Ms. Ciccolo asked what the Steering Committee should do? Should members help before or during the forum? Mr. Wilmer asked that members get the word out & to participate in the breakout sessions, to listen to what is being said. Some potential areas of public outreach could be the Thanksgiving Day game, the Downtown Stroll, & Town Meeting. Chief Stephens said he will put it on the HPD signboard. Ms. Shea will have posters & flyers on display in Town Hall & Senior Center during the Stroll.
New Business
As mentioned at the last meeting of 10/12/12, the forum dates have all been set. They will be held on 1/14/13, 3/4/13 & 4/22/13. A fifth forum discussing recommendations & implementation will be held, but the date has yet to be determined, depending upon the progress of the draft. Ms. Ghiloni asked when the Open Space forum would be held, as she wanted to make sure she would be in attendance & that it would not interfere with Recreation registration.
