This meeting was held to hear presentations from Applicants for Funding:
Habitat for Humanity:
Present representing Habitat were: Wendy Cohen, Meghan Foley and Mike Barry. Discussion followed regarding their request of $140,000 for affordable housing: $50,000 for land purchase of a parcel on Old Bolton Road and $90,000 for construction costs.
Information presented included selected homeowners responsibilities for sweat equity, mortgage, taxes, etc. Members of CPA requested information on choosing family. Habitat stated that it is not necessarily a Hudson resident, but individuals must have a demonstrated need for housing i.e.living in substandard rentals and meet financial criteria with landlord references, employers, credit reports. Members questioned whether Habitat had investigated any local funding from banks or corporations in the area to help with the project, did the parcel meet current single family zoning, who would be the monitoring agent to assure house stays affordable? Habitat has not approached local businesses, has not gone before the zoning board of appeals and that the deed for the property will carry
DHCD’s Local Initiative Program Deed Rider.
Senior Center Renovation and Expansion Project:
Present were Michelle Ciccolo and Janice Long. Discussion followed regarding their request for $343,273 for historic preservation details of the Senior Center Project. Discussion followed regarding the cost of the entire project, changes to feasibility study that could drive the cost of construction over the amount previously authorized through Town Meeting and with grant funding.
Jennifer Burke motioned to recommend funding in the amount of $300,000 for the Senior Center project to the November Special Town Meeting, for specific rehabilitation and restoration line items, seconded by Linda Ghiloni and carried..
