Trails Committee Minutes 09/24/2014
Holland Trails Committee Minutes

Date: September 24, 2014

Present: Richard & Chris Haller, Fred Beaulieu, and Jackie Proko

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Dick Haller. The minutes were approved

as read.

Old Business:

The Selectman have decided to not give the Committee a key to the upstairs, but they

affirmed that the Community Room is ours the 4th Wednesday of every month.

The Committee used the publicity protocol to inform townspeople about the Open

Space Plan being developed. Howie Fife will let us know when the next meeting is

planned.

Brian Johnson says that he will complete the filling and grading of the new trail. This

project, however, will not be undertaken for at least 2 weeks.

A better price for a portable toilet was obtained from A-1. They will send a quote. Dick

will meet with Keith Beecher to discuss the feasibility of installation of one near the trailhead.

The email account provided by the Town is unusable at present. Dick will try to remedy

this issue.

The possibility of a trail at the Community Center was investigated through a site visit on

September 13th. The prospects for a trail which would circle the Center are good. To

improve accessibility for those with disabilities, a loop could be added in the rear of the

building. A question to be answered is whether or not restrictions might apply due to the

proximity of the well.

Because of difficult terrain and the current use by the Highway Department, the prospects

for a trail from Town Hall to the Center are poor.

Gravel has been purchased for our next project. The price was about $400 / truckload

(previously $250). 3 loads were purchased which amounts to about 48 yards.

The Army Corps has used a brush hog to cut back vegetation on both sides of the trail

and has prepared the new section for fill and grading.

We have had trouble getting tractors for our next workday which is scheduled for September

27th. Consequently, we will be unable to surface the new segment of Old East

Brimfield Road.
