Minutes of Meeting - August 9, 2016

Meeting called to order at 10:25 by Chris Haller, Chairperson.

Board Members in attendance: Chris Haller, Chairperson; Tina Rootes-Hunter, Vice Chairperson; Linda Racine, Secretary; Sue Sanders, Treasurer; Jack Reed, Member at Large;  Cindi Harris, Member at Large.
Absent Members: Lowell Nixon, Member at Large.
Other: Deb Tierney, Outreach Worker; Deb O'Connor, Community Center Staff; Fran Gallo.

Meeting minutes for July 13 were amended.
Motion by Sue Sanders to accept the minutes as amended.
Second by Cindi Harris  
Motion passed.

Treasurer Report
Treasurer's report will be changed to provide a monthly update instead of a cumulative report for the entire fiscal year.

  • Treasurer's report filed for audit.
Outreach Report
GSSSI has awarded another one year grant for Outreach Services.

Coordinator's Report
  • Request from Paula B. for $150.00 for an event September 14th featuring Rob Adams.

  • Request from Paula B. for $105.69 to purchase toner for the Community Center copier.

Senior Housing Committee Representative

Council on Aging Alternate Member

  • Conflict of Interest Law Online Training must be completed every two years by all members of the Council on Aging.  Certificates must be printed and submitted to the Secretary to be filed.
  • Emergency Preparedness Kits
Deb O'Connor has requested donations of soap and shampoo from area hotels, but has had no response.  

Hand sanitizer should be included in the kits.  Tina Rootes-Hunter  will purchase.

Twenty lunch boxes have been purchased for the kits.  Fourteen people have signed up for the event on August 22.  A request was made to spend up to $100.00 to purchase additional lunch boxes.

  • Senior Survey was in the August newsletter.  Responses are coming in.  Deb Tierney will call seniors who do not respond.
  • At the senior housing committee meeting, a representative from Pioneer Valley spoke about the requirements to reach the top tier of grant funding for senior housing.  The next meeting is on September 12th.
  • The walking trail at the Community Center will be completed this week.  Granite benches will be installed.  A ribbon cutting event was proposed for October.
  • All of the money for the Formula Grant for 2016 has been spent.  Chris Haller is working on the grant for fiscal year 2017, which is due August 19th.
        
New Business
  • The MCOA Annual Conference will be held in Falmouth, MA on October 26th through 28th.  The theme of the conference is Rising Tides.  Reservations need to be made by September 23rd for those who would like to attend.
  • The Council on Aging meeting in November is scheduled to be held on November 8th.  Because the Community Center will be used for national elections that day, a motion was made to change the date of the meeting to November 15th.
