HOLLAND COUNCIL ON AGING

Minutes of meeting held On December 5, 2007

Meeting opened at 10:15 a.m.

PRESENT: COA members: Lowell Nixon, Olive Nixon, John Reed and Brad Noble. Others: Senior Center Director: Margaret Crock and Kitchen Manager: Don Sanders.

ABSENT:   Harold Hewinson, Frank Antonovitch, Susan Sanders, Sara Meier, Deb Tierney, and Paul Gillis.

Minutes of November 7, 2007 accepted.

REPORTS:  

OUTREACH WORKER: Deb Tierney (written report)
AVADA Hearing workshop was held on November 8th from 1 – 3 p.m. It will be held again on January 10, 2008. On Nov. 19th Joan Dusoe from Harrington Hospital spoke about prevention of infectious diseases. On Dec. 17th a representative from SHINE will update us on Medicare & Part D prescription drug plans. Two dozen applicants have applied for fuel assistance. In November, 34 unduplicated clients were served and 105 service units were provided. Motion made, seconded and approved to purchase stamps for mailing the news letter in the amount of $102.50.

FRIENDS OF THE HOLLAND SENIORS:
The Friends are sponsoring a bus trip to Bright Lights on Dec. 7th. The COA wishes to thank the Friends for this trip. We understand the bus is full which is really great.  

SENIOR CENTER DIRECTOR: Margaret Crock.
In November, 564 contacts made, 62 seniors served, 163 attended Senior Center, 75 attended congregate meals and the balance includes cards & games (59), exercise (39), senior tax work off program (34), One pot meals (30), No sew blankets (33), Speakers (17) and lunch at HES to hand out hats and mittens to the 2nd graders (20).

FINANCIAL: Brad Noble, Treasurer  
 Receipts in November were: GSSSI $583.30. Expenditures in November were: telephone $55.46, M Crock salary $611.00, Deb Tierney wages $493.50, Electric $109.52, Trash pickup $30.22, Supplies $116.15, Managers wages $740.00, Printing $89.60, Mileage $222.45 and Exercise class $135.00.



PROGRAM COMMITTEE: Margaret Crock, Deb Tierney & Olive Nixon
Corinne Lavallee and her volunteers are still working on “no-sew blankets” for service men. An exercise class is held every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. A simple meal is available


on Thursday’s from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45p.m. Cribbage is held each Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Computer classes for seniors are held Wednesdays at 1 p.m. All computers are operational and may be used by seniors anytime the center is open. On Dec. 13th there will be a 1 pot lunch with singing to follow On Dec. 19th we will have our annual Senior Center Christmas celebration with Eddy C for entertainment. In January we hope to start movies on Thursdays, after the 1 pot lunch. A larger TV and a VCR have been donated for this project. This project was presented by Corinne and approved by the COA.

SENIOR TAX ABATEMENT PROGRAM: Margaret Crock and Harold Hewinson.
Year to date, $1,993.13 has been charged to the Senior Center, $665.64 to the School and $105.00 to the Assessors office.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE:  Paul Gillis (absent)
No report.

KITCHEN MAINTENANCE: Don Sanders
Water leak around the stove hood, called company but no response yet. During the last rain storm, no leak was seen. Need cotton dish cloths, Brad will check out Wal-Mart on his next trip.    
                 
All of the above reports were accepted by the Council on Aging.

OLD BUSINESS
Brad reported that a voucher to set up a petty cash fund for Margaret has been submitted to the Treasurer.

NEW BUSINESS
None
