SKATEBOARD PARK MINUTES
October 9, 2012

Minutes: The minutes from the September 11, 2012 meeting were accepted as written.
Mike asked the guests to speak about their wishes for a Skateboard Park in Holden. One of the young men stated that he and his friends skateboard in his driveway and on the sidewalk at his home on Jamieson Rd. They are careful about the cars traveling on the road. They go to area skateboard parks in Hubbardston and Worcester. Mr. Fleske said that he prefers to take the kids to Hubbardston because the Worcester park has graphic graffiti and the kids use foul language. Mike agreed that it was a rough park.
After the kids were given the opportunity to speak and ask questions, Mike spoke about the history of the Skate Park that Holden was trying to build. After many years of ups and downs, and frustrations, the time has come for the Committee to suspend the idea of building a skate park. There are not enough people pushing to build one in Town. Valerie suggested that the kids mount their own campaign, strengthen their numbers, form some concrete ideas and then speak at a Selectmen’s meeting.
Denise thanked both Mike and Valerie for their enthusiasm and energy, and for sticking with this project.
There are no future meetings planned.
The meeting of the Skateboard Park Committee adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
