Skateboard Park Committee Meeting Minutes
July 13, 2010
Starbard Building

Members Present: John Blunt, Chair; Nate Moore, Recorder; Mark Flionis, Denise Morano, Recreation Director

Members Absent: Marta Ferrera, Jessica Massery, Susanne & Ed Carroll, Susan Serewicz, Jim Jumonville - Selectman

Guests Present: Mike Savino, Dan Castro - reporter, Jacquie Kelly - Assistant Town Manager

The committee reviewed the size of the park - 3,600 sq. ft., approximately 2 tennis courts. The cost estimate is $40 - $50/square foot, $200,000.

The preferred site is Eagle Lake. The site is zoned for recreation, a survey of the property should be completed, and the DCR (Department of Conservation and Recreation) will need to be contacted to assure there are no restrictions.

Mike Savino was asked if he would like to be a member of the Committee, and he accepted.

Jacquie reviewed the Request for Proposal process:

Hire a designer - be specific with the components that are wanted to be contained within the skateboard park.
They will provide a schematic and a cost estimate
Committee members should meet with the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee
Public support is essential

Jacquie will email the RFP to the members, and expects it can be added to the Central Registry within 2 or 3 weeks.

Committee members expressed desire to have work completed so it can be presented at the special Town Meeting in November for approval.

Renting a table at Holden Days has been axed because there won't be anything ready to hand out or distribute.
