Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes

The Recreation Committee meeting was called to order at 7:00p.m.
Minutes: The minutes from March 11, 2008 were accepted as written.
Directors Report
Summer: Summer recreation staff have been hired, and I am still interviewing lifeguards and water safety instructors; Summer registration was held on Saturday, May 10 at the Senior Center. 996 children registered for summer programs. The All Day Program has sold out. Next registration is May 18 and is open for all; April 1, we started selling resident and non-resident passes. All non-resident passes (400) sold out April 8.
Programs: Before and After School Programs 245 children are currently enrolled; Davis Hill and Dawson School need to be re-licensed this June. Jim Baron from the Dept of Early Education and Care will visit both schools to review files, inspections, schedules, polices etc. Mountview programs that were offered included sign language and hip-hop classes, but were canceled due to lack of enrollment. Adult programs Yoga – Tues and Thurs mornings 19 enrolled; 3CPYo last session had 11 and this session 15 enrolled; Electronic Piano offered in March w/4 enrolled and the May class has 2 participants; Birthday Card making class had 8; Latin Dancersize - March session had 14 enrolled, and beginning tonight a new session has 10 participating. We offered a Thursday evening class but had to cancel
due to the numerous conflicts at Mountview. A financing class was offered, but was canceled because of lack of enrollment.
Miscellaneous: Tuesday, April 8 the fields were released. The playground at Rice School was installed and opened on April 22. The low bidder for the tennis courts and basketball court at Mountview was Sunshine Paving Corp. Their bid was $65,388.00.
The next Recreation Committee meeting will be held on September 9th @ 7:00p.m. at the Starbard Building.
