The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.
Martha Lyons, historical preservation consultant, also teaches graduate studies at University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Ms. Lyons assigned students to prepare enhancement plans for three areas; The Town Center, Jefferson Mill area and Grove Cemetery.
Maggie Leonard a 2nd year graduate student of Landscape Architecture and Historical Preservation attended the meeting to privde a presentation on the Town Center report. The plans incorporated replacing the large parking area on the side of Town Hall and the neighboring church with a common green area. Ms. Leonard also suggested utilizing trees to define common areas, this included the removal of a few trees to increase the visual significance of landmarks on Main Street.
The Committee thanked Ms. Leonard and her classmates for their hard work, the presentation was extremely though provoking and informative. A copy of the report and renderings were left with the Committee and Town for their information.
The Committee reviewed a summary of items discussed at the June 5th Committee/Board roundtable meeting. Attendees suggested the Town form of government be evaluated. This topic is not a required element of the Master Plan and was not investigated, the Committee felt they were too far along in the process to begin researching a new issue. It was also felt that the Master Plan document may not be the best fit for this discussion.
Implementation of the plan was discussed. The Committee discussed what steps to take next. A meeting will be scheduled for July 31, 2007 to review comments incorporated by the Committee. C. Duffy made a motion to only forward the plan to the Planning Board for adoption. J. Giotta seconded the motion, all were in favor. The Committee will meet with the Planning Board to discuss the draft and the adoption of the Plan.
Holden Days the Master Plan Committee will have the same booth location at Holden Days. This will be discussed in greater detail at the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
