CABLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
Meeting Number 195
April 4, 2007
Senior Center

MEMBERS PRESENT: Chris Hugo, Hank Ouellette, Larry Popple, Patt Popple,
Ginny Ursin

ALSO PRESENT: Johnny Suire, Public Access Director

The Minutes of Meeting #194, February 21, 2007 were accepted.

Control Room/Studio Update: Johnny will have his second meeting about the control room redesign tomorrow with AdTech. Meanwhile, Johnny has arranged with Holden DPW to install a 4' x 6' window between the studio and the control. The cost of the window is below $500 + installation. This will be an excellent addition to the studio/control room.

CATV Study: Jacquie Kelly has asked the committee to take the lead in the CATV study that the Selectmen have asked for. $20,000 has been allocated from the Light Department budget to study the feasibility of the Light Department providing cable TV service in the town. Larry will contact her for more details.

Cable Legislation Update: Chris updated us on some new FCC regulations which require franchise agreements to be done in 90 days. However, it is his understanding the Massachusetts' 12 month regulations are still in place.

Charter License Renewal: Larry will contact Jacquie Kelly about moving forward with negotiations.

MassAction: The committee discussed the MassAction's proposal to establish a public policy membership drive to work against state and national threats to public access. The cost to HCTV would be $1,200 a year. The committee will consider membership at a later meeting. Meanwhile, MassAction is holding a mini-conference on access centers and legislation on April 13th in Newton. Patt and Larry volunteered to attend the conference and report back to the committee at the next meeting. Johnny will have a check cut for the registration fees.

Publicity: Johnny proposed spending $200.00 for publicity to promote HCTV at the Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament on Friday, May 11th. Considering the great success we have had with producing On-the-Road with the Chamber, the committee voted to approve this expenditure.

Charter Grant: Johnny noted that the Charter Grant check of $186,552.96 has been received.

Before adjourning, Johnny gave the committee a demonstration of the remote camera system in the Senior Center. It is very impressive to say the least. Good Work Johnny!

Next Meeting: Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the studio.

Respectfully submitted,
Larry Popple
