The meeting was called to order at 8:05 a.m. by Cheryl Owoc. Chairman Mansfield was unable to attend. Cheryl entertained a motion to accept the minutes from the April 5, 2007 meeting, which Al Ferron motioned to accept, Barbara Anger seconded, and it was unanimously approved.

F.H.C.O.A. REPORT

Barbara Anger reported that the next Friends' meeting will be held on Monay, May 7th, and she will not have a report until after that meeting.

The Newsletter arrived after 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27th, and they were mailed at 2:30 p.m. the same day. Barbara expressed her appreciation to the volunteers and to Louise who also helped. The Friends made over 100 red, white and blue key chains for Memorial Day. They are trying to make Seniors aware of the importance of keeping a house key available for emergencies. The Friends' cookbooks are sold out except for two (2), which will be held for historical purposes. Sweatshirts and golf shirts will be available in the next couple of weeks with the Senior Center logo. Payment is due when ordering. The Bemis Farm workshop will take place on Monday, May 21st. The applications for the November 3rd fair will be mailed out later this month.

COORDINATOR'S REPORT

The movie "Casino Royale" will be shown today. Kathy Peterson will be in on May 7th to demonstrate the use of the new Voter Assistance Terminal, which will help handicapped and visually impaired voters. An Alzheimer's Information Seminar will be held on May 7th. Dr. Janice Funk is presenting the seminar which is usally sponsored by Pfizer, however, they rescinded that funding, and she has agreed to make the presentation pro bono. We are also offering CEU's for nurses and social workers. Ruth Harcovitz will be performing on May 10th, through the courtesy of a grant from the Holden Arts Council. The Mother's Day Celebration is May 11th. International Day featuring Spain is May 17th. Financial Consulting Group will be here on May 21st. "The Holiday" will be shown on May 24th. Fallon Yoga Stretch will take place on May 30th, and "Happy Feet" will be shown on May 31st.

It has been a year since we began having the newsletter printed by Quality Business Printing Solutions, and although the print is clearer and paper a better grade, we have been having difficulties receiving them on time. Louise had a conversation with Dave Dorren and told him of our concerns. He agreed that if we get the newsletter to them by the 11th, he will get it back to us by the 22nd or 23rd. Louise checked with Jacquie Kelly and the volunteers about looking at Senior Center Printing again, if Quality does not hold up their end of the bargain.

Louise and Maureen will be attending a Formula Grant Training seminar on May 11th at the Worcester Senior Center. Emmet Schmarsow will be the facilitator for the training. Louise is hoping to do some different things next fiscal year, including hiring a part-time outreach worker to work between 15 and 19 hours a week and pay that person through the grant. The RUOK program needs to be upgraded, and Louise is estimating a cost of approximately $2,000.00. Doug Nelson may be able to come up with an updated computer. At the present time, the state budget has our line item level funded. There is a group of legislators who are looking to increase the cost per senior from $6.30 to $7.00. Our representative, Lew Evangelidis is supporting this change. Sue asked if Harriette Chandler supported the change, but Louise hasn't seen the list from the Senate, yet.

OLD BUSINESS

No old business

NEW BUSINESS

Al Ferron mailed out the policy that he developed for the Welcome Aldrich Fund, which included the history, purpose, and how the fund should be used. Al is trying to take away some of the work the outreach workers have to do. Sue asked if we are bound to use only the internet, which both Al and Louise answered "no". Jerry Heslinga asked what was used in the last couple of years. In 2005 it was $100.00, in 2006 it was $100.00, and to date for 2007 it is $300.00. In 2003, $1,638.00 was disbursed. After review and some minor changes to the application, Sue motioned to accept the application, which was seconded by Jerry, and passed unanimously.

There was no other old or new business, and a motion to adjourn was made by Al Ferron and seconded by Barbara Anger. Meeting adjourned at 9:07 a.m.

The next regular meeting of the Board will be Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 8:00 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Maureen Buffone
