1. Acceptance of Minutes
Motion was made by Beverly Potvin Kenniston and seconded by James Dillon. It was voted to approve the minutes of January 25, 2010.

The Board of Assessors reviewed real estate abatement applications. Abatements were granted on a number of real estate abatement applications and several denials were issued. The assessment date for the Fiscal Year 2010 Real Estate Tax Bills was January 1, 2019. Real estate sales in Holden during 2008 were used for this tax bill.
The first motor vehicle excise commitment of 2010 was mailed on February 9, 2010 and was due on March 11, 2010. There were 14,905 bills for a total of $1,473,998.75. Based upon the 1st Commitment of 2010, the average motor vehicle excise bill is down 5% from the previous year.
Office staffing was discussed. With the retirement of our long time Senior Excise Clerk, the assessors’ office will be short handed until this position is filled. Due to budgetary restraints, there may be a delay in filling this position. This is a serious concern. Both the Principal Assessor and Asst. Assessor/Data Collector will need to adjust their schedules in order to provide office coverage taking them away from their duties.
The assessors will be attending the Worcester County Assessors Association Workshop in West Boylston on the subject of Preparing for the Appellate Tax Board on March 24, 2010. Two cases are scheduled to be heard on appeals on April 15, 2010.
The next meeting of the Board of Assessors will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 4:30 P.M.
