1.  Block Parties
City of Hawthorne Office Assistant Becky Cassels gave the definition of Block Parties and examples of different cities requirements for having a block party.

Major Latrell Simmons from ASO thanked the City of Hawthorne for inviting ASO to this block party workshop.  He stated ASO biggest issue was the people at the event blocking the streets.  It slows down EMS if service is needed in the area.  ASO cannot enforce or take action if people do not get a special event permit.  They will only enforce the law if people are breaking the law.

The group continued to discuss certain things regarding the Block Party:
Location
Not blocking the street
Time (Begin and End)
Lighting & Security
Neighbors Approval
Liability Insurance
Registration on Sunbiz
Must have medical personnel
Partnering with Alachua County EMS/Fire Rescue
If the events are allowed on city property, the city can set the rules.
