ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
Progress on industrial and commercial development of the Weyerhaeuser properties in Hawthorne.
City Manager Vause- Weyerhaeuser is continuing to apply for permits and working on phase 1 which is the entrance to their property on SE 211st Street.
The Discussion continued.
Update on the CRA efforts
City Manager Vause gave a short presentation “Path to Progress” giving an update on the CRA efforts. A brief discussion continued regarding the CRA efforts.
Update on the School Efforts
Mayor Surrency- school has to get a “C” grade or higher to remain open. Testing started yesterday and will go to May. Asked the County Commission to write a letter of support. The School Board Superintendent will write a letter asking for an extension.

CR 2082 Road Repairs
County Engineer Ramone Gavarrete spoke on the needed repairs on CR 2082. He stated he was not sure when the repairs will be done because this road is very low on the list. Will give his contact information to the City Manager so he can work with her on the progress of the future repairs.
Moved to direct County Staff to get with City Staff to look into grants to assist in road improvements.

Update on Countywide Wetlands Protection Code
Mayor Surrency- The intention was to protect unincorporated areas around the cities. One of our small business want to expand, but cannot expand because the new ordinance will not allow it. We are asking the County to revisit the maps. We are also working on an advance storm water corridor project with DOT and CSX.
Local Option Gas Tax
Mayor Surrency- Didn’t agree with County decision regarding the Gas Tax. This decision will cost the City of Hawthorne $10K per year for the next 5 years. We are asking the County to revisit and consider consumption and where the majority of the money comes from.
The Discussion continued.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Presentation- Ms. Dorothy Benson gave a presentation on the Campaign for Children’s Trust of Alachua County. The City Commission asked Ms. Benson to get with City Manager Vause to schedule a date to come back before the Hawthorne City Commission.
COMMISSION GENERAL COMMENTS AND INFORMAL DISCUSSION
Commissioner Chestnut asked about speeding on CR2082.
Mayor Surrency announced he have a meeting on the 26th with the Sheriff’s Office Administrative Staff to discuss several issues going on inside the city.
