1. Elnora Turner- Habitat for Humanities
Ms. Turner thanked the City Commission and the City of Hawthorne for helping her get a Habitat for Humanity home in Hawthorne. She informed the City Commission that she has officially paid off her 20 year mortgage.
Mayor Surrency thanked her for helping the kids cross the street in front of the Elementary School.
Vice Mayor Howard nominated Ms. Turner as the next citizen of the month.
1. Citizen of the Month Presentation
The City Commission recognized Ms. Alta Johnson, Mr. Dick Curtis, Mr. Ray Daniels, and Mr. Wally Russell as Citizen of the Month for July 2017.

Mr. Wally Russell- Hawthorne Area Resource Center- For the month of June 2017 HARC fed 230 households and 720 individuals through farm share.

2. Swearing in Ceremony of City Commissioners (Oath of Office)
City Attorney Hoehn swore in Mayor Matthew Surrency to serve another two year term on the City Commission. (Vice Mayor Howard and Commissioner Floyd was sworn in at a previous meeting).

H. DISCUSSION ITEMS
1. Hawthorne Athletic Park Expansion- Hawthorne Fitness Center
City Manager Vause presented the agenda item.
Vice Mayor Howard and Commissioner Bouie expressed concerns about the amount of money.
Mayor Surrency suggested getting appraisals so we can move forward with a counter offer or to accept it or reject it.
Commissioner Floyd added the clientele will pick up if the equipment was updated.
City Manager Vause we need at least 166 clients to cover the overhead cost.
Mr. Dale Moore (Citizen) said the equipment is old and not worth $40K.
Mrs. Diane Tilbury (Citizen) said we really need this in the city.
City Manager Vause stated she will get the appraisals on the equipment.
I. CITIZEN COMMENTS- None
Mayor Surrency- Water line broke today on SE 69th Avenue.
City Manager Vause- The west side of the City is under a Boil Water Notice for at least 24 hours.
