MINUTES
A. CALL TO ORDER- Mayor Randall

B. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Moved to approve the agenda with amendments

Mayor Randall- The applicants interviewed for the Interim City Manager were Ms. Cheryl Elmore, Ms. Ellen Vause, Ms. Linda Chapman, Mr. Jim Drumm, and Ms. Lillian Hutchinson
C. CITIZEN COMMENTS
Ms. Vicki Logan- Here to voice her opinion to support Ms. Ellen Vause. If she’s approved for the Interim City Manager herself alone with others would be willing to volunteer for this city.
Ms. Jennifer Tozzo- She is here to show support for Ms. Ellen Vause.
Mr. Larry Tilbury- Has only two words “Ellen Vause”.
Ms. Vivian Wagner- Would have said Linda Chapman but when she said $95K, I decided to go with Ellen Vause.
Mayor Randall- All the candidates represented themselves very well and the interview process went very well.
D. INTERIM CITY MANAGER SELECTION
Commissioner Carter- Keep hearing in the back of his mind we need someone local. Ellen Vause is very knowledgeable about the City and she grew up here. Thinks she has excellent communication skills and has the City of Hawthorne’s best interest at heart. She has experience with large budgets and that is success within itself.
Moved to hire Ms. Ellen Vause as the Interim City Manager.

Discussion
Commissioner Roberts- This is the first time we have had 3 good candidates and it makes this decision very hard. They were honest and truthful in their interviews. Today she contacted her top 3 candidates and asked a few more questions. Ms. Lillian Hutchinson can’t start for one month but maybe we could bring her in as a consultant.
Vice Mayor Surrency- Share some of the same sentiments as Commissioner Roberts regarding Ms. Hutchinson. She brings great energy. Thought of bringing her in as a CRA Director, but thinks Ms. Vause is what we need right now.
Commissioner Carlton- Either of these applicants are just fine and don’t think the City of Hawthorne can go wrong with either choice.

Mayor Randall- She will make contact with the candidates tonight and will advise them of the decision of the City Commission.
Ms. Vivian Wagner- She hopes the City Commission will work with the new Interim City Manager and hope the City Commission will follow up with the things they said they will.
Ms. Jennifer Tozzo- 4 police officers lost their lives in Florida.
Mayor Randall offered prayer for the fallen officer’s families and asked for a moment of silence.

The Special Commission Meeting adjourned at 7:00PM.
