Finance Committee Minutes – 20 January, 2007, Town Hall
Meeting called to order at 9:00 a.m.
Finance Committee Members present: Colwell, Donovan, McKenna, Ricci, Russo, Sobalvarro
Administrators Present: Leonard, Bragan
Selectmen and School Committee Members present.
The intent of this meeting was for the School Committee to walk-through documents detailing FTEs and all school funding sources and to discuss override options.
General Comments:
- Seeing the offsets linked to specific budget items would be helpful.
- A summary of how the Devens’ monies are applied to the budget would be helpful.
- Jefferson expects to have 12 additional (net change, 0) choice students this year; final decision on choice slots is 3/2007
- The FTE sheet distributed had minor errors, and needs to be updated (i.e., not all FTEs for the ELL programs are shown). The document that was distributed showed the following changes:
- SC requested that they (and the town) start looking at what our system would look like with 500 additional pupils.
- Override strategies were discussed, including (a) 1 override; (b) tiered overrides; (c) a new approach not yet defined
Questions were taken from the public.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 to an executive session for discussion of contract negotiations.
