Hanson is highly decentralized, with quite a few independently elected Boards, Committees and Commissions.

For example, the Health Agent is appointed by the Board of Health - an elected board.  The same is true for the Town Planner and the Planning Board; the Assessor and the Board of Assessors; and the Water Department.

Additionally, the Highway Surveyor is elected, as are the Library Trustees and the Trustees for Memorial Field.

This is quite common among smaller towns - but sometimes we as citizens do not know to whom to turn for enforcement or help.

The attached Organization Chart is an attempt to depict, visually, how the Town of Hanson is organized by statute.  This chart demonstrates how you, the voters, are at the heart of the entire process - you are at the center of the "Daisy" wheel.  The Board of Selectmen and their appointees are shown at the bottom.

Red type indicates that the Organization - the Board, Committe or Commission, actually appoints their staff or they appoint other Boards/Committees, as in the case of the Town Moderator.

Blue type indicates Boards, Committees & Commissions appointed by the Board of Selectmen, within the 5 categories of Public Safety; Regulatory; Administration; Social Services; and Inspections.
