5:00 PM: Chris Lawton: Meeting House Rental’

At 5:00 pm Chris Lawton, a resident of Greenfield came before the Selectboard. Mr. Lawton explained that he is a pastor interested in renting the Greenfield Meeting House in order to hold bible study & worship services, which he currently conducts at his home. The Selectboard asked how many people attend his bible studies class now and Mr. Lawton said between 20 to 30 people on average. There was a discussion about the Sanctuary above the Meeting House first floor. As part of the discussion it was suggested that both the Town and Mr. Lawton reach out to Reverend Dan Osgood to see if there are any items in the Sanctuary that are owned by Greenfield Community Congregational Church (GCCC). Mr. Lawton asked some questions about the space and said that he did not intend to use the instruments (piano/organ) that are in the space. The bible group has a sound system that he will use. Mr. Lawton outlined his interest in renting the space on an annual basis (lease) as opposed to on a week-by-week basis. The Chair said that Greenfield Residents that want to hold a wedding or a funeral would need to take precedence. The Selectboard discussed the rental agreement and said that they would be willing to rent the space on a week to week basis for a while to see how things go. Once they have some more information from GCCC they could look at whether it makes sense to have Town Counsel look at a lease agreement. Mr. Lawton thanked the Selectboard for their time and said he would be willing to rent on a week to week basis for now. He looked forward to talking further about a longer term rental agreement.

The Chair noted that the Town of Peterborough is holding a meeting for town officials to discuss the 2015 Emergency Ambulance contract and that the Selectboard members would be adjourning the Selectboard meeting in order to sit in on the presentation of the Ambulance budget.

Adjournment

On a motion by the Chair, and a second by Selectwoman Day, the Board voted to adjourn. The motion carried 3-0. The meeting adjourned at 5:35 PM.
The minutes are final when approved and signed by the Selectboard. A signed copy is on file in the Selectboard’s office.
