Minutes:~ Jarvis Adams
Call to order 6:00PM
Selectmen started a tour of the Library lead by chair of the Library
Trustees, Mary Anne Grant, and Librarian Gail Smith,~until 6:15 when
they met with Conrad Dumas.
Selectmen discussed with Mr. Dumas about appointing him chair of the
soon to be formed Parks and Rec. Committee.~ Mr. Dumas stated that he
wanted to make a few things clear; that he would only be committing to
serve for one year, that he wanted get a clear job description of the
Parks and Rec. Director, and establish a community based~committee to
assist the Parks and Rec. Director.
Mr. Dumas had a list of folks that had shown an interest in being on
the committee and asked if the administrative assistant would forward
him a list of any one else that was interested in being on the list,
along with their telephone numbers. He proposed having a first meeting
next Wednesday from 7-8PM at the town office. Mr. Dumas also wanted to
be up front that he came to the table with a bias. Selectman Adams
sought assurance from Mr. Dumas that he would not let his bias interfere
facilitating the meetings, or with his duties as Chair. Mr. Dumas
assured the board he would try to work for consensus on the
committee.
After their discussion with Mr. Dumas, the Selectmen continued their
tour of the Library including the outside of the building and the new
room downstairs. The leak in the Library roof has been repaired by
William Brown, who will also be making repairs to the slate roof later
this year and the trustees hope to budget for a certain amount of
repairs every year until the whole roof has been gone over. Mr. Brown
comes highly recommended by the towns of Jaffrey and Dublin. While
touring the basement addition a few things were pointed out that still
needed to be completed by West Rindge Builders, but for the most part
the downstairs meeting room was finished off and was now usable space.
Problems with water leaking in parts of the old foundation, and at a
point where to new foundation connected to the old were brought to the
attention of the Selectmen.
The Selectmen continued their meeting on the main floor of the library
and discussed with the Trustees and Librarian about vision and future
of the library. Part of the discussion centered on use of the new
downstairs meeting room.
During the discussion it was brought up that
the occupancy of the meeting room was limited due to lack of an
acceptable second egress. Selectmen will contact CEO Peter Hopkins and
find out what needs to transpire to rectify the situation.
Adjournment- With no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:15. The
next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 16th at 6:00PM at the Town
Office.
