What’s our work after job description is drafted and collaboration with the BOS?
3. Drafting a Job Description
Rhonda: we had talked about volunteer-based committees helping with events – are we expecting the Director to plan and organize these events?
Neal – that’s a lofty expectations – but Director helps with money – unrealistic to expect them to anticipate all the desires, specifics for larger events; the Director should aim to work with the groups to come up with a plan but the groups should be the engine driving the events forward
Rhonda – what if there are no volunteers. I don’t want to cut the Director’s responsibilities too much or allocate too many duties which require too many hours. What about the possibility of a program director, who would specifically plan events for kids, adults, seniors? Then the Director would only play an advisory role.
Conrad – were not going to get more than 25 hours – we’d be imprudent to expect more than 25 hours – future hopes with fundraising efforts would be to employ additional staff – which would require a self-sufficient budget that brought in its own money to allow for expansion.
MaryAnn – remember that anything over 30 hours must have benefits – so what qualifications do we want? Looking outside of the town may only attract candidates looking for benefits. This position should be salary because it is not the kind of job that looks the same each day; one couldn’t put in the same hours equally each day.
Melissa- a salary is a good point – the position should allow someone to give over 25 hours – it would be in the town and the BOS interests to avoid having to pay overtime.
Conrad- let’s clarify – is anyone looking for full-time – are we saying salary but part time?
Maryann – a salary per year.
Melissa – there should be at least set office hours.
Conrad – maybe it is more important to say we want an average but allow for flexibility, especially considering varied seasonal needs.
Neal- I agree let’s just say the minimum expectation is 25 hours per week, with office hours, and recommend that it is a salary-paid position.
The Committee works on minimum requirements, finalizes the expectations of the position and drafts an “Examples of Duties” list
The final version of the Committee’s version of a Recreation and Facilities Director is completed
The expectation is to meet with the BOS on Dec 16th after a brief meeting among Committee members beforehand to confirm consensus has been reached
Meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
