Annual Winter Carnival 2008
Friday & Saturday, February 15TH  & 16TH  

Come explore the fun you can have by bringing your family out to the Greenfield Winter Carnival on Saturday, February 15th and 16th.   Win the “Great Chili Award” for the best chili by entering in the 3rd annual chili cook-off and supper at the Greenfield Meeting House.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
Winter Carnival Kick-Off
Dance Featuring “The Boogiemen”
8:00-11:30 pm. Door open at 7p.m.
Come on out and hear a little music, dance, or just hang out.  This is the place to be on Friday night.  BYOB, doors open at 7 p.m.  Word on the street is, there’s a “singing Selectman” in this band.
Cost: $6.00 pp  or $5 is you bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank.

1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Warm-up Crafts and Stories at the Library
Come see Mrs. Tario at the library for some fun, warming crafts while watching the sledding contest, or wait for your turn by staying warm and being entertained at the library by hearing a story or two.  Perfect for those parents with little ones who want to stay warm!   Please note that this event will be cancelled if the sledding is cancelled.

8:00 – 11:00 a.m.  Pancake Breakfast
Come out and tantalize your taste buds while getting acquainted with the local fire and rescue department personnel.  Pancakes, sausage and beverages  $4.00 kids (10 & under) and $5.00 adults.  Greenfield Meeting House.

10:30 – 4:30 p.m        Ice Fishing Derby, Instruction, Ice Skating, Snowmobiling fun, Ice Rescue Demo, Lunch, and much more
Get bundled up, bring those skates and poles and spend the afternoon.  New Hampshire Fish and Game will teach you about fish ecology and how to ice fish.  Prize for the biggest fish!  Held at the Crotched Mountain Lakeside Community Center at Sunset Lake. *Events at lake are weather permitting.

Cross-cut Saw Log Cutting Contest
Come-on Mr. & Mrs. Muscles, show us what you can do!  Two-person log cutting competition.  Happening at the lake ALL DAY at the lake.

*NEW*      Ice Rescue Demo 12:00 noon
The Greenfield Fire and Rescue Department invites you to come down to the lake to see an ice rescue demonstration.  There will be some ice safety tips thrown in.  Come on down….should be a sight to see!  Time to be determined.  Check the “official update schedule” around town closer to this event.  

11:30 –1:00 p.m.        Lunch at the Lake
Take a break from the outdoors and come on in for a bite to eat!  Refreshments with all the fixin’s.  The G.I.vers will be providing an affordable lunch menu, so come dine in front of the cozy fireplace at the Crotched Mountain Lakeside Community Center at Sunset Lake.  Hot chocolate and coffee will be hot for you all day long.

11:00-2:00 p.m. Winter Work and Play Through the Years at the Historical Society
Come over to see antique winter paraphernalia, photos, and other winter items.  Hot cider and Donuts will be served. YUM!

1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Homemade Cardboard Sled Races  
****NEW ADULT RACE ADDED!****   
We totally would not forget the thing the kids look most forward to….the  CARDBOARD SLED RACE!  Let your creative juices flow by building your cardboard sled at home and bringing it to the race. Building your Sled Guidelines on reverse side.  Prizes will be given by age groups.  Race will be held on hill behind the Greenfield Inn.  Hot chocolate for all! PARENTS: We have added a brand new ADULT race category, just for you!  Why should the kids have all the fun????

5th   ANNUAL CHILI COOKOFF CONTEST AND DINNER

6:15 p.m. – Chili Contestant Chili Drop-off
6:45 p.m. – Chili Cook-off Dinner Begins!
Most popular venue yet, please join us for a little taste of the west.  Come taste the chili cuisine of our local “talented” residents.  Don’t cook? Forget about it….. cast your vote for the best chili around.  Bring you, the kids, and even granny!  For those who aren’t so great with the spice, it’s ok; there will be other things for you to eat.  Feel free to bring a plate of your favorite desert to share!  Donations to benefit the Winter Carnival would be appreciated.

Note: please remember that if the lake is unsafe, and/or there is no snow, all outdoor activities will be cancelled.  The dance, pancake breakfast and chili cook-off will still be held.
