Energy Committee Minutes 05/08/08
Town Energy Committee
Minutes of meeting May 8, 2008
7:00 p.m. in kitchen of Town Offices

Members present: Diane Boilard, Candi Fowler, Aaron Harris, Roger Lessard, Dan Wolaver

Minutes of May 1, 2008 meeting: approved
Diane provided a table of the Town’s heating fuel and electricity costs for 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007.  (See attachment.)  The figures were taken from Town Annual Reports.
Diane is continuing to look for companies that can put foam insulation in old buildings.
Talked to Dave Birchenaugh from the Harris Center to get the names of those that installed their wood-pellet heating system.  The silo was designed and built by Empire Farm Direct: 800-216-6029.  The boiler is from HS-Tarm: 800-782-9927.  The wood pellets are from New England Wood Pellet: 800-782-9927.   Dan will ask these suppliers to evaluate the conversion of the Town Offices Building to wood-pellet heating.
Dan got a clarification from PSNH on their proposal to replace the Town street light with more efficient bulbs.  We rent the 20 lights for an amount that depends on the number of hours of daylight in a month and on the cost of fuel for their generators.  The cost of converting our lights would be covered by a loan of $9864 to be paid off in 102 monthly installments of $97 or in 135 monthly installments of $73.  In either case, our monthly electric bill would not go up because of the savings from the more efficient bulbs.  But if fuel cost rise, our bill would go up correspondingly.  The good news is that the savings from the more efficient bulbs would also go up, keeping the rise less than if we hadn’t converted.  Dan will write a letter to the BOS explaining this.
The BOS is to schedule a trip to Epping to look at their energy system.  Roger will bug the BOS to do this.
Roger will look into labor costs for installing new windows in the Town Offices Building — possibly by a Town resident.
Deb is filling out the Cool Monadnock energy survey.  Dan will follow up on this.
Aaron’s plan to monitor temperatures in town buildings is shelved until the heating or cooling gets interesting.
Aaron will draft a letter to the BOS suggesting the consolidation of personnel in a few heated areas to save fuel in the winter.

Adjourned: 8:07 p.m.
