Conservation Commission Minutes 04/24/2013
Greenfield Conservation Commission
Minutes
April 24, 2013

Attended:       Carol Irvin, Chair; Neal Brown, Karen Day

Meeting began at 7:30 p.m.

·       Debrief on the Roadside Roundup. Everyone agreed that the Roundup was very successful this year.  We had good advertising and the involvement of the Planning Board was a big help.  Carol will write thank you notes to the Woman’s Club and the paper.  Discussion followed about what to change for next year. Given the difficulties getting the meeting house, the commission agreed to establish the last Saturday in April as the set date for the Roundup. We also agreed that the dinner should include some type of green salad to attract those who eat glutin free or vegetarian diets. The group also discussed getting local scouts involved in some way.
·       Blueberry Bushes. The Commission discussed the best approach to selling of the last of the blueberry bushes that we weren’t able to sell at the BlueBerry Jamboree.
·       Compliance issues. Carol reported that several people have expressed concerns about the new building site on Zephyr Lake Road. Carol inspected the property over the weekend and noted that the excavation equipment was too close to the wetlands and some of the work appeared to be sloppy, but there were otherwise no apparent violations.  She relayed the information to the building inspector.
·       Contoocook and North Branch Rivers Local Advisory Committee. Janet Renaud attended the last meeting and reported the following via email:
·       1) Recruitment - they had formed a plan to recruit more members (in Greenfield's case, it worked).~ Still missing are Hancock, Jaffrey, and a few others.~ They will continue to work on it, since their membership has been dwindling.~ Janet plans to ask her Forest Society contacts if she can use their stewardship list for this.
·       ~2) There had been a request for testimony regarding a Senate bill that would combine dredge/fill permitting.~ Janet didn’t have all the details, but it seemed like it would definitely benefit the environment.~ Michelle Hamm, who is the Hillsborough representative as well as the spokesperson for the mill, and the public face of the committee, spoke about it and the Committee voted to send a statement to the Senate supporting it.
·       ~3) There were several meetings and trainings discussed including the Volunteer River Assessment Program Training that Janet and Paul will attend.
·       ~4) They asked for news about the Robertson land, since some of them live in Bennington and had heard only rumors.~
·       5) There is a survey for the Lakes Advisory Council which the Committee will fill out collectively at the next meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
