Conservation Commission Minutes 05/28/08
Greenfield Conservation Commission
Minutes
May 28, 2008
7:30 pm

Attended:       Carol Irvin, Chair; Neal Brown; Karen Day
Special Attendees:  Bob Marshall, Kevin O’Connell, Sheldon Pennoyer, and Ryan Owens (Monadnock Conservancy)

1.      Discussed results of the Roadside Roundup.  We collected 150 bags and 90 people attended the dinner hosted by the Woman’s Club of Greenfield.
a.      Action Taken:  We will fix the Roadside Roundup for the last weekend in April.  Thank you notes will go out to the town and the Woman’s Club.

2.      Discussed logistics for the Blueberry Jamboree.
a.      Action Taken:  Bushes will be ordered from the Yankee Farmer.

3.      Discussed possible future Conservation activities/events.  Plant blueberry bushes in Oak Park.  Contact local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops for this type of activity.  Might be a good activity for someone seeking to become an Eagle Scout.  Develop something around recycling that would include an interactive display for kids.

4.      Sheldon and Ryan gave a presentation about current activities of the Monadnock Conservancy in the Greenfield area.  They are working on a purchased conservation easement on East Road that would include about 80 acres of land along Rand Brook.  The Russell Foundation is financing a large proportion of the costs.  The Conservancy would like the Greenfield Conservation Commission to financially support their activities and create more of a public/private partnership with the town.
a.      Action Taken:  None at this time.
