Trustee of Cemeteries Minutes 02/25/2014

Board of Cemetery Trustees

DATE: ~Feb. 25, 2014   6:12 p.m.
LOCATION: ~~Town Offices

PRESENT: ~Gil Bliss, Margo Charig Bliss, Jan Moller, Sexton Merrill Villmore, former member Lee LeBlanc

1.      The board discussed warrant articles upcoming at town meeting, including funding for a new cemetery fence at the Meeting House Cemetery and creation of a 100-foot buffer zone between Greenvale Cemetery and the town gravel operation. Margo Charig Bliss will present both articles at the March 15 town meeting, on behalf of the board.

2.      The condition of the cemetery gates was discussed, as they need better support. Merrill Villmore and Gil Bliss will meet with blacksmith Vinnie Anfuso in the spring, as Anfuso has worked previously on the gates. It was noted that the town DPW completed a roof repair on the pump house at the rear of the cemetery. Merrill also discussed plantings he is planning this year for both the Greenvale and Meeting House cemeteries.

3.      Chairman Gil Bliss read the cemetery trustees section from the annual Town Report, noting the imminent departure of Trustee Jan Moller, who has chosen not to run for a new term. Returning trustee Lee LeBlanc will take her place, as she is unopposed in the upcoming election, which will be the inaugural election of a board separate from the Trustees of Trust Funds. Gil Bliss will take a three-year term, Margo Charig Bliss a one-year term and Lee LeBlanc a two-year term.  Jan Moller offered her future assistance if needed for cemetery activities. We thank her for her service.

4.      Margo Charig Bliss expressed interest in establishing a subcommittee to work on documenting town gravesites for use in archival and ancestry research.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Gil Bliss, chairman
