Budget Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes

Attendance: Norman Nickerson, Ken Paulsen, Susan Moller, Diane Boilard, and Myron Steere.
Meeting opened at 7:00 PM.
After review of the budget the Committee had a number of questions –
The consolidating of a number of accounts (computer services, health insurance, etc.) has eliminated a valid comparison from prior years and does not show the impact on the various departments for these charges and does not show where these costs are allocated. The Committee would like to see the costs by Department.
Significant salary increases were provided staff last year – what are the increases for this year and justification?
Building Inspector salary up significantly – justification? … Should salary be based on work actually performed?
Fire Department chief salary moved from $2,000 to $15,000 - justification? New responsibilities?
Highway Department – where did gravel/sand processing go - $10,000? Is this no longer being tracked? Fuel costs going up? - Fuel costs decreasing – justification?
Capital reserve funds – are the funds adequate? Nothing for police cruiser replacement noted!
Warrant articles not provided – we would like to review.
Based on last year’s spending, why can’t we reduce spending below last year’s budget – rather than going up?
