REPORT OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF GORHAM TOWN COUNCIL
September 23, 2002
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Roll Call of Council: Present: Chairman Phinney; Councilors Hamblen, Justice, Loveitt, Dugas, Willett and Robinson; the Town Manager and the Town Clerk
The meeting recessed for a public hearing on a proposal to amend the Streets and Sidewalks Public Safety Ordinance, Schedule E to allow right turns only from Mechanic Street and to prohibit left turns from New Portland Road and Main Street (Route 25) onto Mechanic Street. Nine members of the public spoke, several of them business owners on Mechanic Street or Railroad Avenue. All nine pointed out problems with the proposed amendment and most offered alternatives or suggestions as to the solving of the traffic problems. The hearing closed at 7:45 p.m.

The motion by Councilor Dugas, seconded by Councilor Hamblen to amend Schedule E of the Streets and Sidewalks Public Safety Ordinance to add "Mechanic Street onto New Portland Road and Main Street; New Portland Road onto Mechanic Street and Main Street (Route 25) onto Mechanic Street" FAILED OF PASSAGE. 0 yeas. 7 nays (Hamblen, Robinson, Loveitt, Phinney, Willett, Justice and Dugas)
Moved by Councilor Justice, seconded by Councilor Robinson and VOTED to adjourn. 7 yeas. Time of adjournment
