REPORT OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING OF GORHAM TOWN COUNCIL

June 19, 2001


Roll Call of Council:  Present:   Chairman Loveitt; Councilors Alden, Justice, Chicoine, Willett  and Robinson; the Town Manager and the Town Clerk
                                Absent:     Councilor Phinney


        The Town Manager announced that the judge has granted summary judgment to the Town in the Duchaine lawsuit and therefore all claims have been dismissed.

        Chairman Loveitt announced that he was a recent guest speaker at the Gorham Historical Society.

        Item #6501.  The order, as read aloud by the Town Clerk, was moved by Councilor Justice and seconded by Councilor Chicoine.  Moved by Councilor Chicoine, seconded by Councilor Justice to amend the proposed order by deleting the words “from Cross Street” and adding the words “along a section of Main Street.  5 yeas.  1 nay (Willett).

        The order, as amended, was then VOTED resulting in the following:

        ORDERED that the Town Council approve a plan to remove parking along a section of Main Street to provide room for a center turn lane and to remove parking on Elm Street near the intersection of Elm Street and Water Street in accordance with the recent Planning Board approval of Hannaford Brothers application to expand.  6 yeas.

        Prior to the above votes a motion by Councilor Willett, seconded by Councilor Justice to amend the proposed order to retain two parking spaces in front of the Bookworm FAILED OF PASSAGE.  2 yeas.  4 nays (Robinson, Loveitt, Justice and Chicoine).

        Item #6502.  Moved by Councilor Chicoine, seconded by Councilor Justice and ORDERED that the Town Council go into Executive Session, after the conclusion of the workshop, pursuant to Title 1, M.R.S.A., Section 405 (6) (D) to discuss the acquisition of property.  6 yeas.

        The meeting recessed for a workshop to discuss and review the revaluation project and to discuss and review the current  workload before the Planning Board and the Planning Department.

        The meeting reconvened at  9:15 p.m. and the Council went  into Executive Session.

        Moved by Councilor Hamblen, seconded by Councilor Robinson and VOTED  to adjourn.  6 yeas.  Time of adjournment – 9:36 p.m.
